I forgot my poppies!

Hello,

In my tour of the garden, I forgot my poppies! They are the most exciting part of this spring for me. For the past 20 years I have tried on and off to grow Flanders Poppies, with zero success. This year, I have had several plants survive the winter and give me flowers this spring. :-)
They are all different. Although they are all bright red petals, their centres are all individual.
These flowers have been endlessly fascinating for me, and I have taken huge pleasure in each and every bloom.

It's Spring and my flowers are blooming

Hello!

I'm still taking photos, I just don't seem to find time to blog about it. This post is about our garden. :-) When spring arrives, the flowers appear.

First the begonias (and they are still going).

The passionfruit is LADEN with fruit this year. After three years, it has finally decided to flourish!
This one is a little strange. It thinks it is an avocado. :-)
Our rose bushes received a hard pruning this year, and have rewarded us with non-stop blooms.
The white rose is Magaret Merril - floribunda and highly fragrant.

The yellow rose is Friesia - another highly fragrant floribunda.

Just a little sample today. I hope you have enjoyed my garden. I have some sunflower photos to come, too.

Some from July - beach, pasta, me

Hello!

I'll go back into the archives of July again, but here are a few to start.

Brisbane City, Adelaide Street on a foggy morning.
Me. Self Portrait.
The Beach with my little girl.
 Our shadows on the beach.
My little girl again, chasing waves.
And some pasta making - I made a batch of pasta with the kids. We had so much pasta that we made ravioli, then lasagne, and then fettuccini to finish it off!

 Coco the Spoodle.
And the last photo for this post, my eldest daughter's floor when she arrived home from holidays with a friend.

See you again soon!

:-)

Some of the photos I took in June

Hello!

I'm not going to go back and do a post about all the photos I've taken... just in case you were wondering if I would bombard you. :-)  But, here are a few of the photos from June that I didn't share.

A few of Brisbane City.

A worksite on Adelaide Street.
 Statue in ANZAC Square.
100 Creek Street, the National Australia Bank building. Terrica Place in the reflection.
Alley between Adelaide and Queen Streets, near Creek Street. It was raining.
Looking out the doorway of Bar Metzo at Adelaide Street in the rain, waiting for my coffee.

And a couple of black and white photos taken at home.

My bathroom.
And my daughter's rose. It's Margaret Merrill, a beautiful white rose with frilly edged petals.

I might go and see if there was anything worth sharing in July.

I'm back, hopefully! 2 August 2012 - lemon

Hello!

I have been so busy and found myself unable to keep up with the daily photos on the blog! I have been taking photos all year (except for a few days off over the last couple of weeks), but I'm not sure if I'll get them loaded up here.

Here in Brisbane, it is the last month of Winter. Traditionally about now, the freezing cold westerly winds arrive, just in time for "The Ekka" (the Brisbane Show). Today, I am sitting here in a t-shirt and long shorts enjoying what is essentially a beautiful spring day.  My lemon trees think it is spring also.

While the last winter lemon hangs on the bush...
The rest of the bush has flowers bursting forth all over...

Excuse the ants and the scale, I just gave the citrus a good dose of white oil last week-end, so they'll be pretty again in a week or two. :-)

I love this time of year!

Days 161 - 162, 9 - 10 June 2012: netball and Tim Holtz

Hello!

Day 161, 9 June 2012 - My View
I spent the morning at the inter-school netball carnival with my daughter. She played four games and had a wonderful time. This photo was looking back over the playing fields, towards the sun. It was funny weather, cold one second, hot the next, cloudy and sunny all at once. The sun is that bright patch in the middle of the cloud. ;-)

Day 162, 10 June 2012 - The best part of the week-end
What a great theme for today. Today was the annual Brisbane Papercrafting Expo at the Brisbane Convention Centre. And it certainly was a highlight of my week-end. I bought myself an OTT light, so I can set up  my crafty corner in the {dark} rumpus room and move off the dining room table.  I bought some new Hero Arts background stamps {yay!} and a few other little bits and pieces. The highlight, though, was to see Tim Holtz demonstrating his products. In particular, he was working with alcohol inks. He's fantastic! I learned heaps and also developed a massive desire for a full set of alcohol inks {oh dear!}. Here he is.
I like this photo for all the colour and product, but I thought it was a bit "clean" for Tim Holtz, so I edited it a little.
There we go, that's better, more grungy!

:-)

Days 159 - 160, 7 - 8 June 2012

Hello!

Day 159, 7 June 2012 - Drink
Well, I cheated a bit. On 7 June, all I drank was a morning coffee and lots of water. Not even fancy water. Just water out of a tap in a glass. So I held off until 8 June and took this photo. Friday night Gin and Tonic. Now that's more like it!
It was a good one!

Day 160, 8 June 2012 - 6 o'clock
6am I was still snoozing away, so I had to use 6pm. At 6pm, as well as drinking that delicious G&T, I was making my Friday night pizzas.

That one's mine - ham, salami, capsicum, capers, onion. Usually I have olives, but I'd run out.
These ones belong to my kids - ham, salami, pineapple, definitely no onion (or there would be a rebellion).

I love Friday night pizzas. Another food tradition in our home.

Days 156 - 158, 4 - 6 June 2012

Hello!

Day 156, 4 June 2012 - Close Up
I looked and looked and looked, but with a very busy day at work, it came down to almost the last thing I did before the end of the day - driving my daughter home from swim squad. A close up of my speedometer.

Day 157, 5 June 2012 - Sign
I like this photo a bit better. The sign at my train station. I liked the orange against the blue sky. :-)

Day 158, 6 June 2012 - Hat
I meant to take a photo of myself in a groovy beanie that my aunty made. But I went to work without it, and the only hat I had available was one of the safety hats. Tres chic!
Yes, sometimes I'm silly.

:-)

Days 153 - 155, 1 - 3 June 2012

Hello!

Day 153, 1 June 2012 - Morning
I spent the morning at my daughter's swimming lesson.

Day 154, 2 June 2012 - Empty
In the middle of writing a job application. My page was empty.
The good news is that it filled up and I submitted the application. Playing the waiting game to see if I get an interview...

And because this is a very BORING photo, here is a prettier subject - Coco, my spoodle.

Day 155, 3 June 2012 - On My Plate
On my plate was Sunday morning pancakes, our family tradition.
Yum!

Day 152, 31 May 2012 - Something beautiful

Hello!

Day 152, the 31st day in May, saw me searching for a photo of something beautiful. The problem is that I've been sick with a cold for two weeks, and I'm not feeling like looking for beautiful things. This is the lovely thing about this photo challenge. It forces me out of my self-absorbed misery to look for nice things around me. :-)

I played with Marble Cam today.

The photo I actually chose was this one.
Mmmm, yes, I think it's beautiful. The photo is actually a detail section of one of my sofa cushions. I love those cushions. My Mum sewed them for me.

Here are the other two photos.
A bit of an abstract. A detail part of a painting in our house.

And a photo I've published before, in April, of my local war memorial, but this time in Marble Cam.
Pretty, isn't it?

I've had a lovely May. Tomorrow we launch into June's photos. Woo hoo!

:-)

Days 149 - 151, 28 - 30 May 2012

Hello!

I'm actually posting the last photos of the month on the last day of the month, it's a miracle! This is the end of the fifth month that I have been taking a photo a day. Seven months to go... or will I just continue forevermore???

Day 149, 28 May 2012 - The weather today
The weather started with a clear blue sky in the morning, but I didn't capture that properly. Then I would have no idea what the weather did all day, although the wet pavements when I left work in the evening indicated it had rained. I caught a picture of the sky on our way home in the evening, and it was worth the wait.
Here are my other two photos from the morning. In the first one, the sun is peeking around the side of a building up the street.
And here is the second.
Both of these photos are looking up Ann Street in Brisbane from the corner of Creek Street.

Day 150, 29 May 2012 - A number
I've been wanting to photograph this number for several weeks. Today's theme was perfect for it. And the subject was perfect for me to try out my new iPhone app "Marble Cam". 280 Adelaide Street, Brisbane.

Day 151, 30 May 2012 - Your personality
My personality? What? How do I capture THAT in a photo? LOL! I drew a doodle and water-coloured it.
I'll leave the interpretation up to you. ;-)
